Description

Metal cone speakers have long been a focus of our development, alongside our paper cone series. Their remarkable versatility makes them capable of handling a wide range of music genres, delivering impressive extension in both high and low frequencies. This series is perfect for the need of usage in a variety of scenarios, from audiophile-level enjoyment to everyday use.

Building on the success of the Che-3, we’ve developed the Che-5 speaker, which combines all the advantages we’ve refined to offer an accessible and high-performance full-range experience. The acoustic design integrates a ported box with passive radiators, ensuring a compact form factor without compromising on sound quality.

The Che-5 excels with a frequency range from 45Hz to 18kHz, offering a dynamic soundstage and an impressive bass response. Whether you’re enjoying high-fidelity audio or looking for an exceptional TV/PC speaker, the Che-5 is a versatile choice that delivers outstanding performance when paired with the dedicated setup.

The Che-5 falls just short of audiophile high-end standards and is very affordable considering its impressive sound quality. It shines thanks to the excellent Li Song AL-5 broadband driver, which delivers fantastic, detailed, clear, warm, and resonant midrange. Vocals and solo instruments are pleasantly prominent without being overly emphasized, and the soundstage is wide and sufficiently pricise. The overall sound is dynamic and full, the highs are clean and crisp (without harshness), and the bass is precise and surprisingly deep for a speaker of this size. Despite its small size the Che-5 can fill at least a medium-sized room with plenty of sound.

I ordered the Che-5 directly from the manufacturer in China at full price in late April 2026, since it was not available from Li Song’s European distributor. The speakers were delivered to me by DHL seven calendar days after ordering, well-packaged and undamaged. The enclosures are well-made and cleanly finished; each speaker weighs good 4 kg, making them solidly built. The competent communication with the manufacturer prior to placing the order deserves special mention, as this is not something one is accustomed with most Chinese companies.

Like almost all loudspeakers, the Che-5 requires a break-in period of at least 100-150 hours to reach its full sonic potential. During the first few hours, the midrange is somewhat weak, the bass is too voluminous, and the highs are too pronounced and rather harsh. After 30-50 hours of break-in, these issues begin to diminish, disappear completely after around 100 hours and the patient listener will be rewarded with a more and more magnificent sound.

For their size and relatively modest price, the Che-5s are a bargain for users who listen to music at moderate room volume and appreciate the speaker’s emphasis on bass and treble. At higher volumes which the Che-5 can reproduce without distortion, however, the bass and treble can become a little bit prominent. The Che-5s harmonize best with hi-fi equipment that has a warm midrange and doesn’t over-boost the bass and treble. They deliver good sound across all music genres from Reggae to Jazz, to Blues and to Classics as well. One can listen to the Che-5 without fatigue for hours even at a middle to high volume.

I use the Che-5s as near-field monitors (listening distance approximately 2 meters) in a medium-sized room. Since the Che-5s feature both a bass reflex port and two passive radiators, the bass response might be perceived as too strong by more discerning audiophiles, specially at high volumes. I tend to listen to music several hours a day and at higher volumes. Therefore I plugged the bass reflex ports with a rolled-up microfiber cloth to achieve a more linear sound signature. After this adjustment, which might not be necessary in a wider room/at a greater hearing distance, I am thrilled with the sound of the Che-5 and would buy the speaker again in a heartbeat. Alternatively, on a preamplifier that still has tone controls, both bass and treble could be slightly reduced specially when listening at high volumes.

It’s clear that every listener has different preferences and hearing, which is why any judgment is always subjective. Likewise, many recordings aren’t ideal, something even a good loudspeaker can’t always compensate for. The Che-5 reproduces good recordings with excellent musical quality, but is also quite forgiving, means still pleasant, with recordings of mediocre quality.
